My youngest has always struggled sleeping well. Frequently we find her in our room after nightmares wake her and rob her of sweet dreams. Since she shares a room with her sister, they've argued about having night-lights on and who will get to pick the music for the night. It's tough having a kid that struggles with sleeping.
When I saw the Dreampad pillow, which was recommended for children who have anxiety while sleeping, I jumped at the opportunity to try it out. I was eager to see if this would really help my anxious sleeper. Little did I know how important the timing of this pillow's arrival would be.
I received this pillow for free in exchange for my honest review. I was compensated for my time. All opinions are my own.
What is a Dreampad Pillow?
The Dreampad from Integrated Learning Systems is a specially designed pillow that uses the natural conductivity of the body to send vibrations through your body which results in a calming effect that facilitates sweet sleep.
Utilizing a mp3 player, you simply connect your device to the pillow, and the pillow acts as a speaker for the music. It's pretty incredible because only the person laying on the pillow can hear the sound.
Even from a few inches away, you can't hear the music playing . To the rest of the world, it looks simply as if you're just sleeping in silence. My kids have always enjoyed music or stories to go to bed with, so this is perfect for sleeping without disturbing those around you. The app has a wonderful soothing options for sleeping, but you can also just use your own music, or my daughter really enjoys listening to her stories on Audible.
We got the 20 inch pillow, and it is so comfortable. You might think that it would feel hard like a stuffed animal that talks, but you can't feel the speakers at all inside the pillow. It's pretty amazing. It's perfect for a small child, or good as a travel pillow. If you have a pillow you already love to use, you can get one of the thin pillows to tuck under your favorite pillow.
The Day the Dreampad Arrived
The pillow arrived at my house on March 19, the very day that my sister and her four daughters were in a horrible car accident. I got the phone call to go to the hospital, and I left my three children with my mother to go find my nieces, and hopefully my sister to see their condition. One of my youngest's greatest fears had been realized. Auntie Amy didn't make it. My four nieces and nephew were now without their mother. How do you sleep after that?
I talked to my kids from the hospital that night and encouraged them that we were not to fear bad things happening, because we have a good God, and He is worthy of our trust.
The days following were a bit of a blur, but I do know that my daughter faithfully fell asleep and stayed asleep with the Dreampad pillow. It was such a blessing to know that she didn't have nightmares those first few days, because I desperately needed sleep.
As family descended upon the house, I watched the pillow be passed around, offering comfort and peace to all that rested their head upon it. It was an amazing resource in a time of trauma.
