Enjoy Learning American History with Dover Publications Coloring Books

I received these books free in exchange for my honest review. I was compensated for my time. As always, my opinions are all my own. See my full disclosure policy for more details.

It just so happens that in our curriculum next year, my youngest and my oldest will both be focusing on American History. While the levels of their investigation will be dramatically different, it's always fun to watch how the different levels intersect and provide opportunities for both of my children to learn more together than they could apart.

I can only do so much as an educator. I love finding ways to enhance or strengthen my students' learning experience. Sometimes its just about finding some simple fun that they'll enjoy learning while completing. Movies and documentaries are excellent options for extending the learning. Another great option is coloring. I recently received some amazing American History resources from Dover Publishing that do just this: they extend learning time while keeping learning fun. I'm all about that.

These eight coloring/activity books are a great way to supplement your American History studies for any age. For your younger ones, they're a great way to keep their hands busy while you read. For the olders, it's a great stress relief activity from their challenging research. Either way, your whole family will love these! Make sure to read to the end, because Dover Publications is giving away 10 sets of the books I received! The titles include:

Experiencing American History with Craft Books

The Standups! Presidents book has to be my favorite in the collection!

You can make eight stand up presidents with this fun activity book. The presidents include Andrew Jackson, Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, and Barack Obama.

Each page has perforated, punch-out shapes that you will use to create your character. They're easy to work with, and simple enough for an eight year-old to successfully create on their own.

With just a little glue, these presidents came together in a few minutes! We giggled the whole time we were building. They are such charming little characters!

These characters offer a great opportunity to research and discuss some outstanding. The easy-to-make punch-out models come with simple assembly instructions that will have them standing proud in no time.

The White House Cut & Assemble book is the next level up for crafters. On a 1-to-10 scale of difficulty in which 10 represents the hardest level, this easy but elaborate model rates as a 2. It's printed in full color on heavy stock at N scale. Appropriate for ages 10 and up, this model appeals to hobbyists of all ages and makes a great family activity.

Enjoying History with Coloring Books

Kids can color as they learn about the legendary Alexander Hamilton, whose fascinating life has spawned numerous books, articles, and a Tony Award®-winning Broadway musical. We love to enjoy coloring books like these while listening to read-alouds. My daughter used the Standups! President characters as inspiration for her coloring.

Captions accompany the well-researched illustrations, which recount the Founding Father's life and times, starting with his childhood in the West Indies and arrival in America. The realistic images portray Hamilton's roles as a soldier, lawyer, and statesman, climaxing in a depiction of the duel that ended his life.

Another excellent coloring resources include the American Presidents Coloring BookFrom George Washington to Donald J. Trump, this fact-filled coloring book chronicles the history of all 45 US Presidents. Each Chief Executive is depicted in an image drawn from real life, and most portraits feature backgrounds that reflect significant events from the president's administration. Every illustration includes a detailed caption, making this book a practical reference as well as a source of coloring fun.

Or you can journey through the history of the states with the United States Coloring BookInformation accompanying each ready-to-color illustration identifies the state's motto, flower, bird, tree, capital, and principal rivers and mountains.
