The Biggest Story: How the Snake Crusher Brings Us Back to the Garden by Kevin DeYoung, exposes the big picture foundational story that runs through the Bible.  When I heard that Kevin DeYoung had written a children's book, I couldn't wait to read it.  I received a copy to review, and I'm excited that I get to give one away to one of you! An Overview of The Biggest Story

The Biggest Story is not only beautifully illustrated by Don Clark, but it is also beautifully written.  Over the 132 pages, DeYoung weaves an amazing thread that takes young readers (and older readers) through the core message.  Too often, children know segmented portions of the Bible and miss the fact that each story points to Christ.

Our Experience with The Biggest Story

When the book arrived, I sat down and began reading to my children as they were finishing up their art project.  I thought I might just read a chapter or two.  As I began reading, the story gripped me, and the writing style was so eloquent yet conversational that I didn't want to stop.  What surprised me the most was that my 15 year old son was the most intrigued by the tale.  Each chapter left us wanting to read the next chapter, and within 45 minutes we had finished the book.

The next evening the kids begged their dad to read the story again as he had missed it the night before.  Once again everyone enjoyed the entire book and found new favorite parts.  It will be a book that continues to be requested by all.

Power of Meditating on Big Ideas

Even though we read through the book twice in a short amount of time, I'd love to slow down and savor the big ideas presented in the book.  DeYoung does a great job of playing with observation.  Throughout the book, characters are compared to Adam.  The image of the garden is continually brought back into the narrative.  The story is rich for meditating upon and walking through slowly.
