A Holy Advent: Hope, Peace, Joy and Love

A Holy Advent: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5

Every December, I find myself slowing down to notice the light.

Candles flicker in windows, quiet moments stretch longer, and the rhythm of the season whispers something sacred — God is near.

This year, our Rooted Minds community is preparing our hearts through a brand new Advent devotional series:

advent devotional for homeschool families

Holy Advent — Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love.

A Season of Holy Wonder

Each week of Advent focuses on one word that captures the heart of God’s holiness — not as something distant or untouchable, but as His character making wrong things right.

  • Holy Hope — When God steps into the dark
  • Holy Peace — When God makes us whole
  • Holy Joy — When God turns sorrow to song
  • Holy Love — When God comes close

Every week, my daughter Alyssa and I will share a short video devotional and a daily creative guide for families — Scripture, reflection prompts, simple art or journaling ideas, and space to worship together.

You’ll hear Scripture read aloud, see Alyssa’s contemplative art in progress, and be invited to experience Advent as a sacred rhythm — not a rush, but a return.

For Families, Homeschoolers, and Seekers Alike

This series was born out of our desire to help families connect with God through beauty, creativity, and reflection.

You don’t have to add one more thing to your December — this is meant to fit gently into what you already do.

You might light a candle before breakfast, listen to the Scripture together, or spend ten quiet minutes reflecting and creating at the end of the day.

Each devotional is designed to work as part of your morning time tradition, family worship, or personal journaling.

Free for the Rooted Minds Community

For this Advent season, I want to open the doors wide —

the entire series will be free for all members of the Rooted Minds community.

If you’re already part of Rooted Minds, the devotionals will appear in your dashboard each Sunday of Advent.

If you’re new, you can join free during Advent and explore all the goodness inside —

creative learning resources, family challenges, art studies, and community discussions.

Preparing Our Hearts to Stay Rooted in the Word

Advent prepares us for the coming of Christ — but it also prepares us to walk with Him in the new year.

In January, our Rooted Minds community will begin a Bible Reading Plan that will take us through most of the Bible in a year.

We’ll read, reflect, and respond together — with space to ask questions, share insights, and stay grounded in God’s story.

If Advent helps us slow down to see Jesus,

our Bible reading journey helps us stay with Him —

learning to live, think, and create from His Word every day.

You can find the plan here:

A Light That Stays

As we move toward Christmas, we’ll light one candle each week — Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love —

and reflect on what it means that holiness has come close.

My prayer is that this Advent journey becomes a gentle rhythm for your family —

a moment to breathe, reflect, and remember that the God who stepped into the dark still makes things new.

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” — John 1:14

Light a candle.

Open your heart.

Let holiness draw near.

Join us for Holy Advent inside Rooted Minds — where we’ll prepare our hearts to meet Love Himself.
