5 Healthy Snacks for Moms On The Go

This summer I've taken some time to focus on myself a little. After practicing caring for everyone else first for the past eighteen years, it is such a hard mind shift. However, I HAVE TO GET HEALTHY. Continuing to follow my personal eating whims only serves myself. To top it off, my energy stagnates when I eat sugary snacks (as much as I love them). Since I wanted to keep up with my family, something had to give.

What I've found is that if I can eat snacks throughout the day that are high in protein, low in carbs and sugar, and low in fat, I don't give in to so many of my crazy cravings. Here are five excellent options under $1.50 each to stay fueled throughout the day:

1. Protein Water

My mother-in-law introduced me to this protein packed drink. Can I just say, they are AMAZING!! With only 60 calories and 15 grams of protein, these drinks are both refreshing and satisfying. I've only tried the Tropical Coconut flavor (because they were the least expensive), but it tastes like a snow cone to me! They're sweetened with Sucralose, so the carb count on these gems is 1 whopping gram.

These definitely taste better cold. They sell on Amazon in a case of 12. For a great pick-me-up during the day, I'm loving these drinks.

2. Quest Nutrition Beyond Cereal Protein Bars

Protein bars are some of the trickiest snacks out there. Some of them are packed with unnecessary calories and TONS of sugar. I've had a hard time finding something that has enough protein to make it worth the calories.

Thankfully Quest makes some seriously good breakfast bars. While you can definitely start the day off right with these, I eat them anytime in the day that I need extra energy. They only have 110 calories, 2 net carbs, and 4.5 grams of fat. That's a winner in my book for the 12 grams of protein they offer. There are several flavors to choose from, but I've added these to my "subscribe and save list" on Amazon. There are 15 in a box, so they'll last you a while if you don't share!

3. Quest Nutrition Protein Chips

I don't know how they did it, but these Quest Protein Chips are incredible. One of my challenges in dieting is that I love the texture of crunch starchy foods. Those don't work for getting healthy. These chips, however, are highly satisfying, super tasty, and ridiculously packed with protein.

When you eat this ENTIRE bag of tasty chips, it's only 130 calories, 4 grams of fat, and 2 net carbs, but you get 21 grams of protein! I've also tried the Cheddar and Sour Cream and Sea Salt flavors. For the texture alone, these are winners in my book!

4. Roasted Broad (Fava) Bean Crisps

These were a bit of a risky purchase for me. I had never tried broad beans, and I didn't even notice the Sriracha flavor in the mix. I'm not much of a spicy food girl. However, I'm so glad I tried them because they are so good!

When I'm out running errands, I often forget to eat until my blood sugar drops and the monster mommy comes out. In Texas, you can't just keep any snack in your purse—they will all melt, but these little snack bags are perfect! I love the little 100 calorie snack packs, and each contains 7 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber. Good stuff!

5. Eda-Zen Cruncha ma-me Edamame Veggie Snack

These fun little snack packs are another easy stack for eating on-the-go. I love edamame, and these freeze-dried little morsels are just as tasty. With only 90 calories per pack, you can feel good about munching on these in place of other snacks.

Additionally, these little bites contain 8 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber (the same as an apple). With all of this nutritional goodness packed in a portable pouch, you can't go wrong.

So there you have it. Five quick snacks that are excellent options for keeping yourself fueled throughout the day.

What are some of your go-to snacks?
