Bruschetta Pizza: A Simple Appetizer You’ll Love to Make

One way my mother-in-law balances out the work of hosting large crowds for Thanksgiving is having an appetizer contest. She offers a prize and lets her guests bring appetizer entries to share. While she's finishing up the last minute meal preparations, her guests are sampling and voting on their favorite appetizer. It's brilliant really!

This year, it was all about the kids. They all brought an appetizer to enter into the contest which also ended up pleasing them as they had appetizers that they loved to eat! My daughter made Bruschetta Pizza, and it was a hit.

Bruschetta Pizza Ingredients

The beautiful thing about these little pizzas is that only a few ingredients makes about 5 dozen little pizzas. Here's what you need:

  • 1 French loaf or baguette
  • 1 small jar of Pizza sauce
  • Cheese blend of choice
  • Your choice of pizza toppings (the adults enjoyed the pepperoni, but the kids liked plain cheese)

Build Your Little Pizzas

Start by thinly slicing your bread. You don't want it too thick because you want your bread to crisp a little, and the thinner you cut them, the more you can make from your one loaf of bread.

Spread a little pizza sauce on each slice and then top with desired toppings.

Put your little pizzas under the broiler for a couple of minutes. Make sure you don't leave them too long or they will burn! Some of the adults in our group welcomed little burnt edges, but once the black emerges on the little pizzas, most kids won't touch them!

Serve your little pizzas warm. You might not be able to get them on the plate before they're all gone!

I love simple recipes like this that give my kids confidence in the kitchen. This simple little idea could be reworked in many different ways. I'm sure we'll be testing out her own varieties soon!

What would your kids put on their bruschetta pizzas?
